Jude Law goes back to school

Recently Jude took part in the launch of a new theme for a short film competition that involves the London 2012 Olympics and Peace One Day. From the London 2012 website:

Actors and film makers Jude Law and Jeremy Gilley joined London 2012 Cultural Olympiad Director Ruth Mackenzie at Petchey Academy secondary school in Hackney, a member of the London 2012 Get Set network, to encourage young people to make short films inspired by the theme of ‘Truce’ for the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad competition, Film Nation: Shorts.

Jude Law said: ‘Today, on World Peace Day, we’re delighted to be working with the London 2012 Cultural Olympiad to issue a call to action for young people to change the world through creativity and the power of film. Peace One Day is already working with young people across the world, and our collaboration with London 2012 is a great opportunity to engage with young people in a creative way.’

Tony Awards

Jude has been nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play for his role in “Hamlet” on Broadway for the 2010 Tony Awards. The Tony Awards will be shown on television on June 13. Comment from Jude on his 2nd Tony nomination on Access Hollywood:

As for his Tony nomination, his second (he was previously nominated for “Indiscretion”), Jude said he was thrilled and planned to take on more Shakespeare plays in the future.

“I’d love to do ‘Benedict,’ I’d love to do ‘Coriolanus’ and ‘Henry V,’” he said.

The Brit has fond memories of the play for which he is nominated – “Hamlet” — and he credits director Michael Grandage for having given the play a new edge.

”[Michael said] let’s tell this as a new play and in a funny way, once he said that, 400 years of pressure kind of disappeared and we got to look at it as if it were a fresh and exciting and brilliant… new story to tell,” Jude said.
