“The heartbeat of New Orleans is its culture and its music, and it gave that music to the world.” – Jude Law
Jude is the chair for Music for Tomorrow, which works to preserve the music heritage today for the world of tomorrow. Through awarding needs-based grants to musicians, fund raising concerts, and supporting efforts to build a National Jazz Center, the foundation supports cultural traditions and musical heritage in danger after the devastating destruction of Hurricane Katrina. Music for Tomorrow held its premiere concert on September 18, 2006 at Tulane University’s Dixon Hall hosted by Jude.
“This is a historic project, rooted in film. I’m immensely proud to be a part of it.” – Jude Law
In 2001, United Nations member states unanimously adopted the first ever annual day of global ceasefire and non-violence on the UN International Day of Peace, September 21. The Peace Day resolution (UN GA 55/282) calls on governments, the UN system, NGOs and most importantly individuals to commemorate September 21 as World Peace Day.
Jude filmed a new documentary for the BBC in Afghanistan, as part of the lead up to World Peace Day on September 21, 2007. He joined documentary maker and humanitarian Jeremy Gilley in a film about the effects of war on Afghan children, and the efforts of UNICEF to provide aid. A charity concert event will be held at Royal Albert Hall on World Peace Day 2007 where a video message from Jude will also be shown.
“I first met Make-A-Wish in 2003 and was overawed by the courage and bravery of the children that I met… Having been directly involved in a wish, I have seen first hand the pleasure that it brings to a Wish Child and their family.” – Jude Law
The mission of the Make-A-Wish Foundation is to create hope and happiness for children with life-threatening illnesses around the world. Jude has been a Make-A-Wish patron since 2003, participating in the granting of wishes and donating to charity auctions.
