Jude on ‘Alfie’

From Empire magazine, a few quotes from Jude himself on his upcoming film Alfie, which is set to be released on October 22:

“As in the original, with [Michael] Caine, Alfie’s attitude towards women is still completely politically incorrect, and it doesn’t mean it’s right, but it is true and has been going on for hundreds of years. And we shouldn’t necessarily cover up the basics of human behavior, should we? Thank goodness women are more interested in a man’s soul. Generally.”

“Since the film is set in the modern world, the women are much more assertive, which does change Alfie’s self-awareness. That they are embodied by Susan [Sarandon], Marisa [Tomei], Sienna [Miller], and Jane [Krakowski], who are incredible, sexy, amazing women, only brings more power to the story. They cause Alfie to ask the deeper questions, about life and love. That being said, the women are strengthened by the experience with him, by his rakishness, his blatant honesty.”

“Was it a good experience to be surrounded by so many beautiful women? It was fantastic.”

Understatement of the year, anyone?
